I've put together a list of wholesale used car auctions in Texas – covering Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and more. I love these auctions! They're a really fun way to buy used cars and trucks. Just keep in mind that there are risks and you should always use caution at an auto auction.

Here's what I think everyone should know about Texas auctions:

  • They've got a huge variety of cars. You'll find everything from trade-ins and lease returns to rental cars, charity donations, and even repossessed and drug-seized vehicles.
  • You can bid online or show up in person, whichever you prefer. Personally, I like to be there for the live action.
  • Before you bid, make sure you inspect the cars carefully. They're usually sold "as-is," so you need to know what you're getting into. I suggest you bring a mechanic with you, if needed.
  • Many auctions have financing options, or you can bring your own lender. Just remember to factor in those auction fees and taxes. I see to many first-timers make this mistake.

If you're new to used car auctions, I recommend visiting one just to watch how it works. The staff are usually happy to answer any questions you have. Once you've got a feel for things, you'll be ready to jump in and start bidding.

Texas auctions have something for everyone. From the Gulf Coast to the Panhandle, you'll find all kinds of cars: donated, repossessed, government surplus, rentals – you name it. Don't forget: you can also sell your own vehicle at an auction in Texas. Most of the auctions on my list will take used vehicle consignments from private owners.
