Car Dealer King: My Advice on Speed's Impound Auction in Portland

Speed's Towing Car Auction, a branch of Speed's Towing here in Portland, is a great place to find a car without needing a dealer license. They've got a decent mix of vehicles, from charity donated cars and trucks to wholesale vehicle trade-ins, and even cars from regular folks as private sellers by owner.

You don't have to be a high-roller with a fancy license to get in on the action. Just a valid ID - anyone can bid in their public impound auctions.

One of the things I like about Speed's is that they let you come down to the lot on Mondays and inspect the cars before placing a bid online. That way, you can really get a feel for what you're looking at – kick the tires, check under the hood, that sort of thing.

They've got everything from "inops," which are cars that don't run, to cars that are ready to hit the road. But the quality and age of these cars can vary a lot, so make sure you do your research before you bid.

My Tip: They also have a location in Hillsboro. So if you do not see what you like at their Portland auction lot, check out their other inventory at the other location.
